100th Transatlantic Crossing for QM2

Cunard Cruise Line has announced that its flagship; the Queen Mary 2 will embark on her 100th Transatlantic Crossing on Sunday 21st September 2008.

She will depart her homeport of Southampton on the Sunday and will arrive in New York on Saturday 27th September 2008.

This Transatlantic Crossing sees a big mile stone for Queen Mary 2 as she will have traveled 316,729 miles on Transatlantic voyages alone. Since she began service in 2004 she will have clocked up nearly three-quarters of a million miles.

2009 sees Queen Mary 2 embark on her second World Cruise as well as continue her annual Transatlantic itineraries.

100th Transatlantic Cruise

Cunard Cruise Lines Queen Mary 2 is to sail her 100th Transatlantic Crossing. She will depart from her home port of Southampton on Sunday 21st September 2008.

Queen Mary 2 will arrive in New York on 27th September 2008. By this time she will have covered 711,288 miles with 316,729 of these miles being on her Transatlantic voyages.

Queen Mary 2 annually travels on Transatlantic Itineraries, on top of this, 2009 will see her embark on her second World Cruise.

QE2 Farewell Visit

Cunard has today announced that Queen Elizabeth 2 will be bid farewell by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in her homeport of Southampton on 11th November 2008.

The visit in November will see the last day that QE2 will be in the UK before departing on her final voyage to Dubai where she will begin her new life as a floating hotel.

She entered service for Cunard back in September 1967 when she was launched by Her Majesty The Queen. She has operated for the cruise line for more than 40 years with 35 of those years as the flagship of the fleet. During her 40 years she has traveled nearly 5.9 million miles, completed 25 world cruises, crossed the Atlantic 804 times and carried 2.5 millions passengers.

Duke of Edinburgh Farewell

Cunard Line has announced that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh is to make a farewell visit to Queen Elizabeth 2 in Southampton on 11th November 2008.

Later that day she will depart on her final voyage to Dubai where she will begin her new life as a floating hotel.

She was the flagship of the Cunard fleet and has been in service for more than forty years after being launched by Her Majesty The Queen in September 1967.

Throughout her years of service QE2 has traveled nearly 5.9 million miles carrying 2.5 million passengers, completely 25 world cruises and crossing the Atlantic an incredible 804 times.

The President and Managing Director of Cunard Line has said;

“We are delighted and honoured that His Royal Highness has agreed to visit QE2 on her last day in the UK. The Duke of Edinburgh has taken a close interest in the ship over the last forty years, and I am certain this will be a memorable occasion for all involved”.

Queen Mary 2 is to spend her Christmas and New Year celebrating in the Caribbean. She will depart Fort Lauderdale in Florida on Friday 19th December 2008 and embark on a 16 night cruise before returning to Fort Lauderdale and flying back to the UK on Sunday 4th January 2009. Christmas Day will be spent cruising in the Caribbean Sea whilst New Years Day is to be spent in the quiet resort of Charlotte Amalie in St Thomas.
