Queen Mary 2 Drydock Complete

Queen Mary 2 has recently completed her refurbishment which has also seen her increase the connectivity onboard. The increased connectivity enables guests to access their emails and website as if they were at home. Guests can now also use their laptops in the staterooms due to the addition of in-room wireless connectivity. The dry dock which has recently taken place for Queen Mary 2 means that she is looking in top form for her fifth anniversary. Queen Mary 2 is currently undergoing her Caribbean season ready for her second World Cruise in January 2009. For the full press release see The Cruise News.

Cunard Cruises Being Updated

The independent Cunard Cruises website; cunard-cruise-lines.com is currently being updated with certain internal pages being moved onto this website. Internal pages that are being moved include the many ship pages for Queen Victoria, Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth 2. The Cunard Cruises website will be left as a news blog to update visitors on the latest news for the cruise line.

Farewell to QE2

Having sailed 5.6 million nautical miles and having served over 2.5 million guests the Queen Elizabeth 2 is finally making her final journey. The QE2 is cruising for the final time to Dubai. She is cruising to Dubai to take up her new job as a hotel and entertainment centre. Before departing to Dubai she will do one final farewell lap around Great Britain visiting ports such as Southampton, Liverpool, Belfast and a few others. Having served for 35 years at sea the QE2 has enjoyed a prolonged life on the sea and having made 25 world cruises she has been the flag ship of Cunard for all of those 35 years, she will be replaced by Queen Victoria a new superliner that Cunard are currently constructing.

Bid Farewell to QE2

Having spent 35 years as Cunard’s flagship the Queen Elizabeth 2 is making her final voyage to Dubai. When arriving at Dubai the QE2 is to become a first class hotel and entertainment destination.

The QE2 has been the flagship of Cunard for 35 years and has travelled a staggering 5.6 nautical miles around the globe. In this time she has been on 25 world cruises and crossed the Atlantic 803 times.

Before leaving the shores of Great Britain the QE2 will do one final lap of the British Isles and will call at Cobh, Liverpool, Belfast, Greenock, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Southampton before visiting New York.

Cunard will sign the QE2 off once she docks in Dubai and she will be replaced by the Queen Victoria which is currently in construction.

Visa Waiver Scheme

Many people do not realise that travelling to the States does not require a visa; it is operated by what is known as the Visa Waiver Scheme. As long as you have a new and machine readable passport you will be fine.
However, if you have been arrested for any crime, even if you where not found guilty, it could effect your chances of getting onto the US. Two Ships, One Cruise

Cunard are to offer guests the chance to experience one World Cruise but two ships. Both Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2 are to embark on a World Cruise between them.

The cruise will begin in Southampton on 2nd January 2009 where guests will board Queen Victoria. Guests will remain on Queen Victoria until 13th January 2009 where the will transfer onto Queen Mary 2 for the rest of the World Cruise before returning to Southampton on 8th April 2009.

Last Call To New York

Queen Elizabeth 2 made her last call to New York yesterday. A celebratory lunch was laid on onboard the ship to mark this historic day. It is the last time that QE2 will visit North America before starting her new life in Dubai.

Speeches and tributes were paid to the QE2 and as she bid farewell; both the QE2 and Queen Mary 2 sounded their whistles to each other.
